Although we have received a number of sign-ups over the past few days, most of us didn’t really know what to do around this site. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
1) Fill up your profile and upload an avatar
Complete your profile with details of where you work, your research area, publication list and others. Add your avatar/display picture so that people know how you look like.
2) Add/invite your friends
Just like Facebook, you can add other members of this community as your friend. To do this, go to “Members” tab and then “Add Friend”.
3) Join groups
Groups are smaller sub-communities within Scientific Malaysian. As there are people from wide range of fields, a sub-group is more focused on certain topics/field of interest. Go to the Groups tab and choose your favourite group to join. There is no limit on the number of groups you can join. Once you’ve joined a group, you can set to receive email updates (instantly, daily, weekly etc) to keep yourself updated on everything that is going on with the groups that you have joined.
4) Create a discussion topic / Reply to an existing discussion topic in the Forum
Each group has a discussion forum section for discussing and sharing ideas. You can see all the forum topics of the groups that you have joined under the Forums tab.
5) Share interesting articles
To share interesting articles or links, you can post it as an update to your profile. To do so, click on your name on the right sidebar and post a message, a video link or a normal link. This is similar to the Facebook feature of posting items onto your Wall.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Enjoy!
