Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment was announced in October 2011, by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The aim of the grant is to allow deserving Malaysians between ages of 22 to 35 to engage in short term collaborative projects of up to 3 months at an internationally-recognised host institution.

INFORMM is a research institute in USM established to conduct research and training in molecular medicine and is now recognised as one of the six Higher Centre of Excellence in Malaysia (HiCoE).
